Blog Love #8 – Best Craft Blog Reads (Summer Crafts Edition)
It won’t be long before summer comes to a close, but here at Golden Age Beads, we want to make the most of it for as long as possible! After all, in a few weeks, we’ll all be thinking about the fall and related themes like Halloween and Thanksgiving.
So let’s hold onto summer for a little longer. We’ve been hunting around the web for some great summer-inspired craft projects and we’ve rounded up our favorites in this post.

1. Easy Terracotta Pot Makeover
Celebrate the final weeks of summer with this beach-inspired plant pot makeover over at The Artisan Life. This project uses textured spray paint and sea shells to transform a plain terracotta plant pot into something that most definitely resembles a sandy beach.
2. Confetti Covered Sunglasses Case
We came across this fun upcycling project for a bright and cheerful confetti covered sunglasses case over at My Poppet Makes! Several colorful confetti circles along with some Mod Podge have been used here to turn an old sunglasses case into something pretty spectacular. You could follow this tutorial to spruce up your own sunglasses (or regular glasses) case!
3. Stuff and Spill Picnic Basket
For those of you who have young children and are a dab hand at crochet, you’ll love this cute crocheted picnic basket craft project, complete with crocheted fruit! You can find the patterns for this project along with pretty photos of the set over at Left in Knots.
4. DIY Flower Crown
If you have a special occasion coming up, why not make yourself a flower crown using this tutorial from Sarah Johnson? This project uses real flowers to make a beautiful headdress, inspired by summer nature. This flower crown project is also perfect for dressing up the little ones!
5. Boho Chic Statement Necklace
This pretty statement necklace over at Happy, Girly, Crafty is perfect for summertime. Best of all, you can use your leftover beads and recycled materials to make this – it’s the perfect way to use up those materials you’re not sure what to do with!
6. DIY Pressed Flower Tray
Capture the essence of summer all year around with this simply stunning DIY pressed flower tray project over at The House That Lars Built. This tutorial explains how to press rose petals and create a beautiful floral pattern background for a tray by covering them with Mod Podge.
7. DIY Citrus Slice Purse
The seamstresses among you might like to check out this fun novelty citrus slice purse over at A Beautiful Mess. You’ll find a great step by step tutorial on how to make this purse which is just perfect for summer – this year or next! It’s the kind of purse that will go with any outfit; classic or casual.
