Little leather tassels are super cute and they can be used for so many different things. They look awesome embellishing shoes and bags or as keyrings… whatever you fancy. We decided to make our leather tassels into a funky pair of earrings and we love the results – of both pairs!
To make both pairs of leather tassel earrings, you will need:
- Scissors or cutters
- Flat nose pliers
- Flat leather/suede
- Jump rings
- Earring hooks
- Glue (only for leather wrap finish)
Cut equal lengths of your leather strip – we used 4 pieces for each tassel. You can make them as long as you like!
Thread the short lengths of leather through the jump ring, overlapping one another. Try to make sure you have an equal length of leather either side of the jump ring.
Measure a small length of your leather to fit around the top of the tassel plus a bit of overlap. Use fabric glue or a relatively strong adhesive to hold this loop of leather together and dab a little underneath to keep it stuck to the tassel – you don’t want this loop sliding off!
Instead of using another piece of leather to bind the tassel together, you could use wire and just wrap it a few times around the top to hold it onto the jump ring. This is a fun way to add some extra detail or another color to your earrings!
Attach your earring hook to the jump ring. You can slide the jump rings opening into the top of the tassel to hide it if you like.
This step is optional and depends on the final look you want. We trimmed all of the tassel pieces to the same length to neaten them off and to ensure both earrings are the same size.
You now have your beautiful tassel earrings! Which finish do you prefer? The wire wrap or the leather wrap? As we mentioned in the beginning, once you have a tassel, you could attach it to anything you like, so let your creativity fun free and see what kind of tasseled creations you come up with!
