I started in my early teens, because of two main reasons: Whenever I went looking for for accessories( Mainly jewelry and specially necklaces and bracelets), I would never find ones I truly liked; and secondly, if I happened to really like something trendy, it was always made for really petite girls. I don’t know about other countries, but I live in Argentina, and when something is mass-produced for the teen market, it’s made just in one small standarized size, if it doesn’t fit you, it’s nobody’s problem.
Now, in my thirties, I keep crafting because I truly enjoy having something that it’s unique. Even if I try to replicate a piece, I fail miserably because I can’t help but adding a new twist.
For me, it was a combination of a desire to have a “bleeding edge” fashionable stuff and to express my personality with one-of-a-kind items. It surely helped that I’ve always been curious how things are made and how they work – I think it’s key to DIY.
