I think certain platforms work better than others. I would say for handmade items, jewelry or not, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr are the best social platforms to go with. A more experience person can make how to videos on Youtube and then link to their shop for people to buy what they show themselves making in the video.
It is interesting that for a very long time I had huge traffic from Pinterest but no orders 🙂 so Pinterest is definitely useful, but ROI isn’t worth its salt, IMHO. Also, it feels more like your own tool/project board than a social venue.
Instagram is awesome! I wish they added a buy button or something like that.
I haven’t tried Tumblr, any tips regarding it? Is it like a blog?
Tumblr is a blog yes but it targets a lot of girls and women 14 to 34. That is a good selling range for most crafts one would make. You can just set up a basic account and then share pictures with the link to the product on it. Using the proper tags is essential and using a lot of them is well worth it.
The tags are better and you can target more people. I managed to get over 1000 followers on there without following a single person just by posting relevant things and tagging them to reach the people I wanted to reach.
