How to Make a Diffuser Bracelet with Lava Beads

Essential oils are very popular these days. Simply stated, essential oils are natural, fragrant oils made from plants. They are extremely versatile, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love a beautiful fragrance. Essential oils have so many uses – from rest and relaxation, to health improvement, and making your home smell great.

While there are many ways to use essential oils, a common use is spreading them through the air of your home via a diffuser. Diffusers work very well, but the difficulty is that you can’t take the benefits of those essential oils with you throughout the day. Some people do apply essentials oils directly to their skin, but these oils tend to get absorbed by your skin, so the scent wears off quickly.

Luckily, a wonderful way to make a portable diffuser is using beads! When you create your own diffuser jewelry, you are making a fantastic accessory that both looks and smells nice.

The important thing to remember when you’re making your diffuser jewelry is that you will need porous beads that can absorb and diffuse the essential oil. Lava beads are the perfect choice for this project. Lava rock beads are made from cooled down molten rock; plus, they look great and are affordable. Unfortunately, glass, plastic, metal, and other non-porous beads will not diffuse the oils, but you can include these types of beads in your diffuser jewelry as long as you include a few porous beads as well.

These wearable diffusers work great as bracelets, but it’s also possible to make a diffuser necklace. The choice is yours! Plus, this is an easy jewelry-making project that is perfect for any ability.

You will need the following materials:

  • Stretch Magic elastic beading cord
  • Lava beads (or other porous beads like clay or unfinished wood)
  • Any other beads that you’d like to accent your piece
  • Essential oil

How to make your diffuser jewelry:

Step 1:

String your beads on the Stretch Magic as desired. Be sure to include enough lava beads to diffuse the essential oils, but feel free to also include non-porous accent beads. Create the appropriate length for your bracelet. Tie off.

Step 2:

Add a few drops of your essential oil onto the lava beads. Add one oil, a blend of oils, or experiment by adding a few different oils onto different beads on your bracelet. Enjoy the wonderful smells of your essential oils throughout your day, no matter where you go.

Keep in mind that some essential oils can stain clothing. After you apply your oils to the lava beads, wait a few minutes until the oils are absorbed before wearing your diffuser jewelry near your clothes.

If you’re looking to create a more intricate jewelry piece, you can always change the use of Stretch Magic to other options like cording and findings or memory wire.

A diffuser bracelet is a great option to make as a gift, especially when you pair the lava bead jewelry with a small bottle of essential oils.
